Planking a Facebook craze under fire in Australia
2011-05-17
A Net craze known as "planking" has come under criticism from authorities in Australia after the arrest of a person for stretching on a police automobile. Planking involves somebody lying flat on their stomach in weird and occasionally deadly eventualities, with photographs of their exploits shared thru social media sites. Facebook page Planking Australia has almost ten thousand fans and lots of footage of folk lying on train tracks, escalators, fire hydrants, motorbikes, and other objects. The craze, though , has landed one 20-year-old in court in Queensland state after he was purportedly found "planking" on a police automobile Wed. and charged with being on police hardware without lawful excuse. Sergeant Matthew Russell, of Gladstone police, said to the Brisbane Courier-Mail paper that planking might be perilous, and practitioners could find themselves facing legal charges. "While we appreciate the activity is high-spirited fun, putting yourself and others in peril and ignoring the law may not be tolerated," he claimed. "The activity is probably dangerous, as advocates of the movement try and out-do one another by planking on structures and in dangerous positions, putting themselves and others in danger of harm." he revealed offenders caught in perilous eventualities may be charged with Unauthorised risky Activity. Planker Michael Brannon protected the supposed sport and charged police of overreacting. "Bloody stupid if you ask me, just a little of innocuous fun and they're squandering their time on this rather than catching ( wrongdoers )," he wrote on Facebook.
