List of SA petrol stations on Twitter
2011-07-15
The page called gotpetrol was started on favored networking site Twitter by Andy Parks. The names of services stations with fuel, the street name and town were being tweeted since early morning hours. "Total garage William Nicoll JHB near Sandton drive," wrote Sarah Theron. "Just filled up at Caltex next to Bryanston Mall ( just off Grosvenor ) Looks like they only had 93 Unleaded," expounded another, Jon Hoehler. Tweets were streaming thru quickly from assorted parts of the country. Some users gave their perspectives on the strike by fuel employees, while others cracked jokes about it. "Did u know jhb has a gas station pretty much every 2kms.they missing one critical thing wait I know FUEL," tweeted Brenz2011. "The strikes have hardly started and folks already in difficulties to get gas. Wonder how long this could last? Anyhow, it spells chaos," wrote Marynamoore. Earlier, the Fuel Shops organisation related at least 150 service stations in Gauteng and fifty in KwaZulu-Natal were without fuel by the COB on Wed. . Boss Reggie Sibiya recounted the strike had crippled the country and was "bleeding businesses". Car organisation speaker Gary Ronald expounded the Twitter feed was helpful and well thought out. He revealed fuel insufficiencies were more wide-ranging than at first predicted, and spread quicker than prior years. "I think what's happened now is that the contingency plans by the refineries have not worked as well as they believed they would.".
