iBurst and MTN may join up on JTE
2011-10-03
IBurst lately launched their latest wireless broadband packages, providing purchasers with more value for money as well as 2 new uncapped broadband offerings. At the launch event iBurst Executive Head : Commercial, Malcolm Turnbull, asserted that they're also in talks with corporations about exploiting their new 1800MHz range for the rolling out of an LTE network. Turnbull wouldn't show which firms he was making reference to, but did indicate it was typically the mobile operators. It's no secret that Vodacom had an interest in using WBS's ( the iBurst holding company ) 1800MHz range to provide further radio network capacity, however it is accepted that these talks have not progressed recently. Turnbull claimed that he couldn't comment as to whether they're in talks with MTN about partnering on an 1800MHz LTE network, but rumors abound that MTN has an interest in iBurst. MTN is presently trialing LTE using 1800MHz range. MTN SA CTO Kanagaratnam Lambotharan stated that they are using re-farmed 1800MHz range ( two x 10MHz ) for these trials. Although it is pure supposition at this point, MTN might very well have chose the 1800MHz range band to check the performance of LTE in a potential cope with WBS / iBurst. MTN was asked for comment about a potential cope with WBS / iBurst on its 1800Mhz range, but the company didn't provide feedback when of publication. MTN also didn't comment on rumors about a potential purchase which should provide access to WBS / iBurst's range. "MTN doesn't make a response to market supposition, nor any explicit company activity," recounted MTN SA.
