Wi-Fi on SA flight
2012-04-26
The 1st Wi-Fi enabled flight in SA is ready to take off on eight May 2012, with Mango providing the aeroplane and WirelessG providing the service through satellite in association with Vodacom. Last pricing hasn't been released yet, but WirelessG / G-Connect formerly suggested that folks can expect to pay a reduced amount for in-flight Wi-Fi than what they pay for 3G information. The Civil Aviation Authority ( CAA ) authorized the installation and usage of in-flight Wi-Fi enabled gear on board South African commercial aircraft in October 2011, clearing the way for a commercial in-flight Net service. According to WirelessG, the basic concept is to offer uncapped access for the length of the flight on a fixed charge basis, instead of charge per megabyte. WirelessG recounted the G-Connect in-flight vouchers are probably going to cost between R50 and R100 each. The service will be available on Mango flights first, with plans to cover other airlines in the future.
